A style of cottage developed mainly on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in the 18th and early 19th centuries, typically a rectangular, one- or one-and-half-story, wood-frame house with white clapboarded or shingle walls, a gable roof with low eaves and usually no dormer, a large central chimney, and a front door located on one of the long sides.
