Malleable iron or steel pipe, as opposed to galvanized pipe in tin-plate pipe; typically 2 inches or less in diameter and with male threads; made of wrought iron until the late 19th century; used for gas and water pipes, and sometimes for railings. See also wrought iron pipe. (Bucher, 1996)
