founder’s mark

A historic cast-iron founder’s mark or builder’s plate was embedded directly into the structural cast-iron elements of a building’s facade. Foundries like Lindsay & Graff were the literal structural backbone behind Manhattan’s late 19th-century construction boom. They prefabricated the structural iron columns, vault lights, storefront thresholds, and full cast-iron facades that define the historic streetscapes of SoHo, TriBeCa, Chelsea, and the Garment District.
