Large structure with several floors built on the western end of the church, typical of Carolingian church architecture, serving political and civil functions. It is shaped like a tower and is usually framed by a pair of stair turrets; internally it is composed of a vestibule beneath an open tribune wrapped by a two-story ambulatory. During the Ottonian age it evolved into the Westbau. (Encyclopedia, 2017)
