The bell tower of the Seville Cathedral in Spain, originally built as the minaret of the Great Mosque of Seville in the 12th century. After the Christian Reconquest, the tower was converted into a bell tower, and a Renaissance-style belfry was added in the 16th century. The tower’s name comes from the Giraldillo, a weather vane statue that sits atop the summit. (International Textbook, 1922)
