stretcher bond

A bond consisting of only stretchers; each alternate course of stretchers is moved over half the length of a brick. Raking stretcher bond, or 1/3 running bond, differs from a stretcher bond in that each alternate course of stretchers is moved over less than half the length of a brick. Stretcher bond and raking stretcher bond are rarely used for solid walls because they lack headers which serve as bonding bricks for such walls. (Phillips, 1994)
