A style of Maya architecture, ca. 550-900, transitional between that of Tikal and Uxmal; characterized by lavishly decorated structures flanked by soaring nonfunctional temple pyramids with steeply raked steps; typical sites are Rio Bec and Xpuhil in southeast Campeche, Mexico. (Harris, 1977)
