An early style of house frame in which 1 1/2″-2″ thick oak planks 12″-15″ wide were placed flat-sided about 2″ apart into a rabbet on the exterior of the sill and plate. These plank studs extended two stories and were attached to the sill, girt and plate with oak pins. Exterior siding was attached to these planks. (Light, 1989)
