The current Directory for Catechesis notes that there are five tasks to catechesis:

  1. passing on knowledge of the faith,
  2. initiating men and women to celebrate the mystery of Christ in the liturgy,
  3. attuning the heart of every Catholic to imitate Christ in every dimension of life,
  4. educating the believer for a life of prayer, and
  5. fostering a spirituality of communion in the parish community. (O’Malley, 2022)
