The Gibraltar Historical Society recently received some nice coverage in the Detroit Free Press. The article talks about the work of Debbie Davenport, a student in the historic preservation program at Eastern Michigan, helping to connect people with the local history there – especially as it relates to Prohibition and bootlegging. Because of the proximity to Canada (just across the river), this made Gibraltar one of several places that bootleggers chose to cross.
The next meeting of the historical society will be Monday, Nov. 12, at 6pm, in the Community Center at 29340 S. Gibraltar Road where Rockne Smith will speak about Gibraltar history.
