In the Apulia region of southern Italy, cone-shaped constructions over 1,000 years old; constructed without mortarorcement by pilingstones in a cylindrical shape (about 2 m high) and then tapering into a characteristic cone at the top; the tip of the cone usually is whitewashed and painted with figures or symbols; usually located among vineyards to serve as storage structures or as temporary living quarters during the harvest.
