This term collectively describes the structures, including monuments and temples, built in Egypt’s Nile valley by the region’s ancient civilization from 3300BC until the country’s conquest by Alexander the Great in 332BC. Ancient Egyptian architecture is characterized by use of stone, mud and brick, and a distinct lack of wood. Ancient Egyptian architecture heavily influenced the ornamentation of buildings in medieval and renaissance Europe. (Ambrose, 2008)
