malleable cast iron

Cast iron which has been deprived of some of its carbon by heating to a red heat, together with some chemical compound having a strong affinity for carbon, and then allowing it to cool slowly. Such castings are not brittle in these sense that ordinary cast iron is brittle. (Sturgis, 1900)
