The gigantic Ionictemples, like the Ephesian, with their forest of columns, were no smaller even in the sixth century (this plan is of the replacement of the burnt Archaic temple). They dwarf even the Parthenon, the largest Dorictemple of the Greek mainland of its day (exceeded only by temples built for Sicilian tyrants). Ephesus, like most Greektemples, had open porches. The Parthenon has shallow porches and a closedbackroom which was the Treasury. (Boardman, 1986)
