HOPE VI
Originally called the “Urban Revitalization Demonstration,” was a Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program designed to solve the problems of badly designed and poorly run public housing projects. (Fullilove, 2004, 68) Public housing had gotten such a bad reputation among the general public that most people viewed the destruction of the towering apartment buildings as a welcome intervention.
