High Line Network

The idea of transforming an industrial relic into a public part originated as an idea of two community members, Joshua David and Robert Hammond, in New York City in 1999. The success of the High Line gave rise to the idea of reclaiming underutilized infrastructure and reimagining it as public open space. This is seen as an antidote to greater city density and lack of space for parks. The High Line Network was launched in 2016 to support an initial 19 infrastructure reuse projects across the US. The High Line Network’s goal is to help projects learn from each other so that all of these spaces – including the High Line – can reach their full potential. The High Line leads the group, fundraises for its initiatives, and creates tools – like the Community First Toolkit – to help support member projects. For more info visit network.thehighline.org.
