cantilever method

A method for analyzing a multistory frame as a cantilever subject to bending. The cantilever method assumes that a point of inflection occurs at the midlength of all members in the frame, and that the axial force in each column of a story is proportional to its horizontal distance from the centroid of all the columns on that level. Imaginary pin joints can be inserted at each point of inflection, making the frame a statically determinate structure. (Ching, 1995)
