Cool Cities – Wyandotte, Michigan (2004)

View looking south along Biddle Ave. The Grind was a popular coffee shop. In the foreground are motorcycles. Regularly people would ride into Wyandotte and light up their bikes along Biddle Ave. The large building in the center background is the Sears Building. Many years later this would be redeveloped and given a new skin, especially on the street side. In this photo it is almost entirely empty.

Energie Cafe and Smoothie Bar was a little further down Biddle Ave closer to Ecorse Ave. After opening in 2004, this became a natural “third place” for people in Wyandotte.

Cool Cities convening at Biddle Gallery. Scott Perry and architect Tom Roberts were two of the leading conveners. Many came out to see how they might contribute to the emerging efforts.
