Dale Sprankle came to Albion College as football coach in 1936, and became college athletic director in 1941. He was known as one of the college’s most colorful figures, and led Albion’s teams to numerous championships. Sprankle retired in 1959 and was active in community affairs until his death in 1963. Sprankle-Sprandle Stadium was named in his memory in 1976, and also for another highly esteemed coach, Walter Sprandel.
