Biography
Leonard was born in Linden, Michigan, on June 17, 1868, and had come to Albion in 1883, when he entered the preparatory department of Albion College. He continued his education there, graduating in 1891. He then lived in Caro, Michigan, for two years, assisting his brother-in-law in publishing the Tuscola County Advertiser. He returned to Albion in 1893, where he was elected a director of Homestead Loan and Building Association, and assumed his secretarial duties on July 31. He was an insurance agent and conducted an extensive insurance business in Albion for many years thereafter. He married Belle Fiske, daughter of Dr. Lewis Ransom Fiske, president of Albion College, on October 26, 1893.
Leonard was involved in numerous civic activities and held various positions of leadership in the community. He was the first secretary of the Duck Lake Golf Club, a director at the Albion State Bank, and treasurer of the Albion College Alumni Association. He died suddenly of a heart attack at his Duck Lake cottage after a golf game on August 15, 1925, at the age of 57.
