blinding layer

A thin, sacrificial layer of weak concrete or stabilized sand laid on a prepared sub-base like compacted hardcore or soil. Its main purpose is to create a clean, dry, and level working surface for subsequent construction, such as placing reinforcement steel for foundations or slabs. This layer prevents the main structure’s concrete from being contaminated with mud and ensures the correct spacing and coverage of the reinforcement. (Forbes, 1988)
