The stress beyond which a marked increase in strain occurs in a material without a concurrent increase in stress. Many materials do not have clearly defined yield points. For these materials, a theoretical yield strength is calculated from the stress-strain curve. 2. The point at which an increase in pile load produces a disproportionate increase in settlement.
