The Presentation in the Temple

When Jesus was eight days old, Mary and Joseph brought him to the Temple in Jerusalem, in accordance with Jewish law, to present him to the Lord. Mary presents the infant Jesus at the altar. Joseph brings a basket of doves and a lighted candle, the traditional offering. The Office of Nones, for 3 p.m., is the sixth of the eight “Hours of the Virgin” (or Offices). Nones is for The Presentation in the Temple. (Thorpe, 1976) Photo from the Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit, Michigan, 2025.
