St. Matthew

One of the Four Evangelists, whose symbol is a man (or angel). St. Matthew was given the symbol because his Gospel emphasizes Jesus’ humanity, and opens with a description of Jesus’ human ancestry. Apostle Matthew is depicted as a man or angle, with a book (when portrayed as an evangelist); money bags, spear or sword (when portrayed as a disciple). (Kremer, 2022)
