Wood sawn radially through the center of a log; produces wedge-shaped boards used as clapboard, shingle, veneer. Also known as radical sawn, rift-cut. See also quartersawn. 2. Wood with the grain across the width, rather than the more typical along the length; used for boards and veneer. See also crosscut. (Bucher, 1996)
