After the initial molding, and while still in a plastic state, both hand and machine-made bricks may be repressed through the use of a repress machine. Besides producing slightly denser, more uniform bricks, repressing is a means of impressing the company’s name into the upper bed of the bricks. Because the pressure exerted by the repress machine is slight, the characteristic marks of the original manufacture are usually retained. (Phillips, 1994)
