One-over-one houses could be enlarged on a narrow urban lot by adding a one- ortwo-story rear extension. The extension was usually narrower than the frontblock and was normally aligned withone of the sidewalls. This form was most popular in the late eighteenth century. Murtaugh 1957, 11. (Jakle, 1989)
