Artificial mound of earth, stones, etc., in a garden (usually 16th or 17th c.) to provide a vantage point from which views might be enjoyed. Advocated (1625) by Francis Bacon (who had mounts constructed at Gray’s Inn, London…). (Curl & Wilson, 2016)
