Longitudinal partition or division, used in various contexts. It can refer to a brick partition wall in a salt furnace, a vertical baffle in papermaking machines, a support between mine tunnels, or a vertical water space in a steam boiler’s firebox. The term is also used in older contexts for a support for the center of a tunnel. (Kremer, 2025)
