A system of underground pipes that distributes the discharge of a septic tank through percolation into the soil; typically consists of a tail drain that connects drain tile in gravel-filled trenches arranged in a fork-shaped plan. Also known as disposal field, leach field, septic field. (Bucher, 1996)
