A building resembling a hall in its construction or plan; especially in German church architecture, a church whose aisles are carried to a height equal or nearly equal to that of the nave, so that there will be no clearstory, and so that the whole interior shall appear as a large hall divided by two (or more) ranges of columns carrying arches.
