fishpond
Artificial reservoir or controlled pool, fed from a stream, in which fish were kept for food. Sometimes formed in series, they were features (called stewponds) of religious foundations (e.g. abbeys) or grand country-houses. Later they transmogrified into purely ornamental ponds stocked with, e.g. goldfish, often incorporating small fountains. (Curl & Wilson, 2016)
