A fund in which the principle or starting amount is never used by the organization; instead, proceeds earned from the management of the endowment which is generally expressed as interest, are utilized; endowments may be specific in use, meaning their proceeds may be restricted for a particular project that has been legally defined during the establishment of the endowment.
