Earth Wall describes several variations of earth-formed buildings. The Mandan Earth Lodge from the Great Plains was made of mud plaster and willow sticks. The Thompson Pit House on the Northwestern Plateau had pine needle, grass, and earth covering. Navajo Hogans and Forked-Pole Hogan from the Southwest was also made from mud plaster with four forked posts positioned in cardinal directions. The Stacked-log Hogan was made of bark and mud plaster with bark chinking and cribbed logs. Finally, the Stone Hogan had a sod roof, vertical plank door, and stone wall. ()
