Community Reinvestment Act
(CRA) A federal law enacted in 1977 that requires federally chartered depository institutions to provide credit to their entire service area, including low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods, and directs bank regulators to assess CRA performance and use their supervisory authority to “encourage” banks to comply with the CRA requirements.
