Made of stone slabs, sometimes with figurative relief decoration. Common in the Bronze Age in central and eastern Europe, the cist tomb may be considered a forerunner of the sarcophagus. The “soul hole” in the front slab was probably intended for votive offerings. (Pothorn, 1979)
