A Neolithic settlement in Anatolia, dated 6500-5000 B.C. One of the world’s earliest cities, it had mud-brick fortifications and houses, frescoed shrines, a fully developed agriculture, and extensive trading in obsidian, the chief material for tool-making. (Ching, 1995)
