An eclectic style fashionable in the 1920s and 1930s in Europe, the U.S. and European-influenced parts of the world. It originated at the Paris exhibition of 1925 and was inspired by avant-garde art such as fauvism, cubism, futurism and expressionism. Its sources also included motifs from ancient Egypt, the Russian ballet, Aztec temples, classicism, and contemporary machinery. (Conway, 1994) Photo from New York City, New York, 2005.
