Absalom
King David’s third son who organized a rebellion against him. The battle took place in a forest. While riding a mule, Absalom’s head became caught in the branches of a thick oak tree. Absalom’s mule kept walking, and Absalom was left suspended. King DAvid’s commander Joan founded Absalom and plunged three jeavelins into Absalon’s heart. David upon earing of Absalon’s death let out the cry: ‘O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you – O Absalom, my son, my son!’ (2 Samuel 18). The story gives rise to the word ‘Absalomism’ – a son’s rebellion against his father. (Taylor, 2003)
