Dwelling belonging to hereditary noble citizens of certain medieval Italian cities, or Orders of Gentlemen of the Free Cities of the German Empire. Some were built as towers for reasons of prestige, e.g. in Bologna, San Gimignano, etc. (Curl & Wilson, 2016)
