Advisory Council on Historic Preservation
An independent U.S. federal agency created by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA) that advises the president and Congress and assists other federal agencies in reviewing the effects of their actions and decisions on properties of historical, architectural, archaeological, and cultural significance, including review of Environmental Impact Statements, and other activities, such as giving awards; has issued regulations (36 C.F.R. Part 800) defining a consultation process that all federal agencies must follow in order to comply with Section 106 of the NHPA.
