A glassy compound composed of sodium silicate or potassium silicate, or a mixture of both, known as double water glass; may be a solid mass, powdered or dissolved in water to form a syrupy liquid; used as a fixative for stereochrome painting, hardening cast stone, and fireproofing fabrics. Also known as liquid glass, soluble glass. (Bucher, 1996)
