A term used in connection with piles to denote the depth to which a pile has been driven in the soil. Also used in connection with the testing of asphalts and asphaltic fluxes to determine viscosity. It is expressed in hundredths of a centimeter to which a standard needle penetrates the material. (Bridge, 2019)
