Abbreviation IEBC. Encourages the use and reuse of existing structures; this code covers repair, alteration, addition, and change of use for existing buildings and historic buildings while achieving appropriate levels of safety without requiring full compliance with new construction requirements; municipalities must adopt the use of this building code set for it to apply to local municipal building officials.
