utility pole

A metal, wooden, or sometimes reinforced concrete pole that is sunk into the ground and carries utility wires above ground. They are ubiquitous across the American landscape. In a few places they are buried underground at great expense to improve the aesthetic appearance above ground. Ezra Cornell was among the early innovators to discover how to dig the holes that the poles are set in to. (Kremer, 2024) Photo from Metuchen, New Jersey, 2023.
