A transparent, deep blue paint pigment composed of any of several cyanogen compounds, especially ferric ferrocyandide (Fe4(Fe(CN)6)3); may have a purple, bronze, or green tinge; the earliest synthetic pigment, invented in Berlin, Germany, ca. 1704 by Diesbach and manufactured commercially by mid-18th century; used for tinting interior paints or glazes. Also known as Antwerp blue, Berlin blue, Chinese blue, ferrocyanide blue, Paris blue. (Bucher, 1996)
