A tall spruce tree with pale buff yellow, soft, relatively weak, lightweight, stiff, straight-grained wood; found from West Virginia to Labrador and west to Alaska; used for lumber, masts, and pulpwood; Picea mariana. Also known as blue spruce, bog spruce, eastern spruce, spruce pine, swamp spruce. See also red spruce. (Bucher, 1996)
