Saint Christopher

Christopher was a man of stature who wanted to serve the most powerful master. He turned to Christ after a king and the Devil had both proved inadequate. As he carried a child across a river his burden almost became too heavy for him and it’s voice revealed he was in fact carrying Christ. Christopher was martyred during the Decian persecution due to his Christian faith. In the Middle Ages it was believed that those who had seen a representation of Saint Christopher would come to no harm, and he came to be the patron saint of travellers. In more modern times, he is the patron saint of motorists. His emblem is the staff the Christ transformed into a palm tree bearing dates. His feast day is July 25.
