X rays are pictures taken to see inside building parts just as they are used to inside people. When a building is about to restored, x-ray machines can photograph walls and wood to show pieces inside that are hidden to the eye – allowing buildings to see what is there and what condition it is in without tearing apart the building to find it. (Munro, 1986)
