Whipple truss

A truss with rectangular panels with more than two posts, diagonal ties, and X-shaped counter bracing at the center panel; end panels may be triangular or rectangular; named for the American engineer Squire Whipple (1804-88). Also known as Murphy truss. See also quadrangular truss. (Bucher, 1996)
